You can back up QNAP NAS data to an external storage device, a remote QNAP NAS, Rsync server, and even online cloud storage services.
- Backup to external drive
You can connect external storage devices to QNAP NAS via the eSATA or USB ports and copy the shared folders on the NAS to the external devices. Three backup modes: Instant, scheduled and auto backup are provided. - Support external devices in NTFS and HFS+ format
The NAS supports external drives in EXT3, EXT4, FAT32, HFS+, and NTFS format and high-speed read/write performance, allowing you to back up NAS data to these devices and restore the data in Mac and Windows environment. - USB One Touch Copy
You can configure the USB one-touch-copy button to trigger data copy from the NAS to external storage devices. - Real-time data backup to remote FTP servers
You can use Real Time Remote Replication (RTRR) feature to back up NAS shared folders to one or multiple FTP servers in real time. The NAS will monitor the file changes and synchronize the data to remote FTP servers. You can use RTRR feature to back up NAS shared folders to one or multiple QNAP NAS servers in real time. The source NAS will monitor the files and synchronize the changes to the destination NAS. Advanced options such as backup logs, filters, policies, and email alert are supported.

Back up to external drives
By connecting external drives to the Turbo NAS via the eSATA or USB ports, IT administrators can easily configure and copy the shared folders on the Turbo NAS to the external devices. The external hard drive backup supports multiple backup tasks, email notifications, and scheduling, giving IT administrators more flexibility to arrange data backup.
With the supports of external drives in EXT3, EXT4, FAT32, HFS+, and NTFS format and high-speed read/write performance, the Turbo NAS can back up data to these devices and restore the data in Mac and Windows environment.
Advanced external drive backup options allow IT administrators to replicate data to designated local disk volume. When setting up multiple external drives as backup destination, each backup task will be correctly mapped to the corresponding external drive even after the external drives are repeatedly removed and plugged back. IT administrators are rest assured data backup is always functioned correctly.
In addition, the Turbo NAS is compatible with various renowned backup software on the market, such as Acronis® True Image, CA® ARCserve Backup, Retrospect®, Symantec® Backup Exec, LaCie® SilverKeeper and so on. Companies that have already adopted such backup software can immediately back up Turbo NAS data to the external drives by means of the third party backup software.
Back up to remote server via RTRR or rsync
Data in the Turbo NAS can be backed up to another remote Turbo NAS or FTP server on a real-time basis via QNAP’s RTRR (Real-Time Remote Replication) service, or a standard rsync server on scheduling basis via rsync protocol.
With RTRR, the source Turbo NAS will monitor the files and synchronize the changes to the destination server. IT administrators can do backup tasks by instant backup and scheduled backup, with compression and SSH encryption options supported.
Real-time data backup to cloud storage
In addition to physical storage, the Turbo NAS leverages backup storage to the cloud. IT administrators can back up the data from the Turbo NAS to online cloud storage services, such as Amazon S3, ElephantDrive and Symform, and restore the data to your Turbo NAS anytime. Several backup modes are supported, including real-time backup, scheduled backup and so on.
