Microsoft is changing how you use the Control Panel in Windows

The set of icons is being replaced by a menu accessible from the keyboard

We all know Windows 10 is a continuously evolving operating system with regular changes made over the course of its release cycle. It seems those changes are extending to the Control Panel, the central hub for system settings.

Windows10Update.com noted that a modest but significant change in build 14942, the latest Fast ring preview version released by Microsoft, made a change to how the Control Panel is presented when using the Power Menu (the Windows and X key)

Instead of the Control Panel shortcut that was placed between the Task Manager and File Explorer in the operating system, there is now a full menu of options that match the Control Panel’s set of applets.

The site said it is unlikely that the traditional Control Panel will disappear from the OS completely, since the Settings app actually calls for it for more advanced configurations and legacy settings. It speculated that Microsoft would probably just leave it somewhere in Windows 10 unused.

Microsoft has made changes to the traditional Control Panel since Windows 8, rolling out a whole new Settings app that was the default for users with that OS. There have been other changes and tweaks as well, but the emphasis now seems to be on transitioning over all settings and options to the modern application.

It can capture an almost un-distorted raw finger print image into PC in 100ms. So it is good for any fingerprint recognition application. Its finger scanning window is a crown glass with a thickness of 14mm. So it is much more reliable and robust compared to any semiconductor type fingerprint sensor. The finger is illuminated by 4 infra-red LEDs during scanning and the light intensity is automatically adjusted according to scanning fingerprint’s characteristics (wet, dry, blurred, etc) to optimize the quality of the captured fingerprint image.Special electronic circuit is built into FS80 to do Live Finger Detection (LFD). That is, with appropriate software in PC, user can select this LFD feature so that only live finger’s fingerprint will be scanned into PC. Fake fingers made from silicone rubber, play-doh, etc, will be rejected. And the LFD feature is included in all Futronic’s standard software.

“Azure simplifies the on-ramp to the cloud and is the perfect match with our production-ready Hadoop Distribution,” said Steve Wooledge, vice president, product marketing, MapR Technologies. “Organizations use MapR to impact businesses as-it-happens’ through automated processes that shorten data-to-action cycles – and we are now extending that value to Azure’s customers.”

Integration between MapR and Microsoft technologies enables organizations to optimally and efficiently use Hadoop on-demand, in the cloud. With the MapR Distribution, Azure customers will be able to:

• Deploy MapR directly from the Microsoft Azure Marketplace

• Transfer data between MapR and Microsoft SQL Server services within Azure

• Deploy MapR-DB, the MapR in-Hadoop NoSQL database, to support a wide variety of real-time use cases and deployment scenarios

MapR-DB offers advanced operational features such as multi-master table replication, where business users can analyze data across geographic regions while maintaining <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">low</dfn> latency and automatic synchronization with a centralized table for analytics and BI.

BANGALORE, INDIA: Wipro Ltd. today rolled out enterprise-Know Your Customer (e-KYC), an automation solution for global financial institutions, built on the company’s Artificial Intelligence platform Wipro HOLMES.

Know Your Customer (KYC) is a business process to verify the identity of customers. Evolving regulatory reforms require financial institutions to significantly strengthen their KYC and customer on-boarding processes and practices.

The solution, being offered as Business-Process-as-a-Service (BPaaS), will address the requirements of banks, insurance companies, brokerage firms and non-banking financial institutions, in a services and outcome based business model.

The solution will help clients achieve <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">cost</dfn> savings upto 35 per cent. It will also enable greater accuracy, improved customer experience and assurance of better quality KYC, in line with regulatory requirements. This solution has been designed around key aspects such as natural interaction, multi-structured information processing, machine learning and reasoning.

Wipro HOLMES leverages semantics, machine learning, pattern recognition and knowledge modeling technologies to enable solutions that add valuable context, intelligence and automation to enterprises.

Wipro’s e-KYC solution uses a library of Wipro HOLMES bots to automate the <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">manual</dfn> processes of KYC, such as information aggregation, extraction and verification.

Nagendra P Bandaru, Senior Vice President and Global head, Business Process Services, Wipro Ltd, said, “Post the last global financial downturn, regulators have raised the bar on KYC obligations. We are confident that our enterprise-KYC solution will help our customers in the financial services industry fulfill their regulatory obligations in a significantly more effective and efficient manner.”

VMware brings new biz mobility solutions

June 16, 20150

BANGALORE, INDIA: VMware, Inc., has outlined its <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">vision</dfn> for the future of business mobility with new solutions, services and partnerships to enable organizations to transform business processes.

“Business Mobility is more than a shift in technology; it is an opportunity for true business process transformation,” said Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager, End-User Computing, VMware.

“Business Mobility will be a key driver of economic value for the next decade – truly reorienting businesses around <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">mobile</dfn> innovation, apps and services. As a result, the adage ‘adapt or perish’ has never been truer than it is today.”

With IT having little to no control over an employee’s choice of endpoint operating systems, the need to manage employee identity is a foundational element for enabling Business Mobility.

· For Employees, this means having a unified experience across <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">all</dfn> of their devices, while having ubiquitous access to all of their applications, content and services.

· For Businesses (and lines of business), this means having an environment that can do much more than just enhance individual productivity.

· And for IT Organizations, this means that the requirements for security, management and networking are changing. Identity and device management must now come together.

VMware Identity Manager – User-Centric Identity for the Mobile-Cloud Era

VMware Identity Manager delivers Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) offering integrated with a leading, enterprise-class mobility management and security solution.

Offered as a cloud service or as an on-premises solution, VMware Identity Manager enables organizations to empower employees to become productive quickly with a self-service application <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">store</dfn>, which provides a delightful end-user experience.

Purpose-built for scale and the Mobile-Cloud Era, VMware Identity Manager will also be used by other VMware solutions and services.

Don’t let restaurants swipe your credit cards

June 12, 20150

MUMBAI, INDIA: Trend Micro has found a new malware—MalumPOS malware which has the ability to steal payment data from point-of-sale systems running the Micros platform of Oracle software.

Trend Micro threat analyst Jay Yaneza, Threat Analyst, Trend Micro, wrote in his blog post that POS RAM scrapers like MalumPOS are designed to scrape off credit card data from an infected systems’ RAM. Every time the magnetic stripe of a credit card is swiped, the malware can steal stored data such as the cardholder’s name and account number.

This data can then be ex-filtrated and used to physically clone credit cards or, in some cases, commit fraudulent transactions like online purchases.

In this case, Yaneza says that the malware’s <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">prime</dfn> target is Oracle’s Micros platform, which is currently deployed on more than 3 lakh sites worldwide. The software is widely used in the US, especially within the hospitality, food and beverage, and retail industries, putting numerous high-profile companies and their customers at risk.

He explains some key <dfn class="pIntext" style="font-style: inherit; color: #0000ee;">features</dfn> of the malware. The malware can disguise itself in the system as the NVIDIA Display Driver and sift through POS data to locate pertinent credit card information. One of the more concerning aspects of MalumPOS is that it is configurable by design; this allows cyber criminals to easily tweak the malware to breach any POS.

It must be recalled that earlier this year, security researchers found two new families of POS malware that use a single component to seek out card data while another sends the coveted information directly to the cyber thieves.
